Personal Experience & Biography

I have over 15 years of clinical experience and enjoy working with clients of many cultures, ages, and diverse backgrounds. I have extensive experience working with the adolescent population and their parents, having worked at both the Inova Kellar Center and the Foundations program (formerly known as Girls Probation House), a residential treatment program for adolescent girls on probation.

I served as both an individual and family counselor at the Foundations program, working with residents and their families on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, substance abuse, domestic violence, and physical, emotional and sexual abuse. Additionally, I ran a parent support group at Foundations and provided individualized parenting sessions in conjunction with family therapy. For the last 10 years, I have worked in private practice in Alexandria and Gainesville, VA with pre-teens, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a model of therapy that helps people heal from trauma, distressing life events, and difficult memories.  This method involves moving your eyes a specific way while you process traumatic memories. EMDR’s goal is to help you heal from trauma or other events from the past you have trouble moving on from.

My practice includes working with children aged 10 and older, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. My clinical areas of interest include depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, sexual abuse, personal growth and building self-esteem. With couples, I have experience addressing infidelity and sexual issues, as well as helping new couples get on the same page before marriage or parenthood. I use a blend of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the Gottman method for couple therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, Solution Focused Therapy, and Bowen Family Systems. I am an inclusive therapist and enjoy working with people of all identities.
